SO! I bought myself a nice little mac book yesterday. As it happens, I like to save money and buy things for myself. So I plan on doing it more often. Next stop, hooded leather jacket. Or a faux fur coat.

I had a birthday! 21 big ones. Drinking in America/ the hiring of cars to follow.

Not going to Splendor in the Grass, totally uninterested in lineup. Pretty much every band apart from the Flaming Lips has been here in the last 6 months, so most people going will be diehards or just going for 'the festival'. Fluro, anyone? So that saved me $400.

Looking forward to the following things:
- Jenny's party tomorrow
- Deerhunter
- Sydney road trip
- not having to work on Sunday
- Uni semester ending
- next pay cheque

Saw Star Trek, it really was something else. That's pretty much it I think.

happy new year and all that jazz.

i went to see sufjan stevens last night, he was pretty good. he did some sweet hula hooping. and played my two favourite songs as the encore.

on wednesday i got offered a job at hmv. i said SWEET, and went in on thursday morning to pick up my contract and fill in forms and stuff, and i saw i was rostered on for big day out day, i told the lady that i couldn't work that day, and she was massively unimpressed. i can see it from her point of view, that i'm new, so what right do i have to be demanding days off? but also, this is the very first time i've seen the roster, the shift is in 9 days so she hardly can say she doesn't have time to reschedule it, and i paid $130 for my BDO ticket 3 months ago. so she said she'd see what she could do to get someone to cover it. who knows what that means.

to make everything better though, i recieved my jury duty summons in the mail this morning, and now i have to ring them and tell them that :(

maybe this job is not meant for me.

BOO.

i babysat for oscar last night, we played cars, and lego and when we called nanna wendy, as he calls my mum, he told her that the lego fell over because silly amy was there. which was fairly true.

hope everyone is going well with exams! i know you all will be, you're a bunch of smart kids.

hey ladies etc. just to keep the trend with other peoples journals, uni sucks, i'm swamped, and sharpening my procrastination skills. saw the klaxons on saturday night, that was awesome, and went to laura's halloween party on friday w/ hannah and sarah, so good times all round. we were supposed to go in costume, but cos we went out afters i just made green cupcakes instead. very well recieved. then on sunday i went to nambour for a brass band contest, where we came second, which was pretty awesome, considering we came last there last year. this week holds more assignments, but by saturday it'll all be over but for one test in three weeks, then it's just french over summer semester to catch up for only doing 3 subjects this semester.
24 days until Muse
12 days until The Killers
upwards of $200 until i get afford a daft punk ticket off ebay
-1 since the arias which should be despised for giving operator please anything other than punch in the face, and loved for awarding Gotye best male artist.
and i think that brings it up to date.

<tronz0r> I'm $4 poorer, 1 bandanna richer and I still don't look like a pirate
<tronz0r> yarrrrrr, tis a sad day.

<snausages> So, an E-flat, a G-flat, and a B-flat walk into a bar.
<snausages> And the bartender says,
<snausages> "I'm sorry, we don't serve minors."
<myke> That struck a chord.
<snausages> Careful with those puns, you'll get in treble.
<myke> But they're key to my humour.
<myke> And very noteworthy.

    <lj:music>mogwai - friend of the night</lj:music>

doot de dooo.

whats to say....

splendour was...tender. haven;t used that one before. what an amazing few days. excellent music, excellent company. highlights: mogwai, scissor sisters, matisyahu, and one very special highlight - the presets. they were my favourite but mostly cos i caught the cat ears that they were wearing during the gig when they threw them into the audience. i put them on whenever i hear a presets song now. me and megan are going to make a presets cover band, and call ourselves the resets. i'll be kym, and she can be julian, cos she does the julian dance moves so well.

speaking of julian....the strokes. wowee. but i'm getting ahead of myself.

uni is a bitch.

um, jason mraz was on tuesday night. he was really really great. to be honest, i wasn't expecting to get a whole lot out of the gig. but it was fantastic. i didn;t know many of his songs, but he was cute, had a great stage presence, an amazing voice, and he just put on a great show. whether or not you think his songs have alot of musical merit is u to you, but i think he's clever, and it was a great night. and at the end, i got one of his guitar picks. asking roadies nicely for stuff gets you stuff quicker than standing there looking hopeful.

then last nite, she said etc. the strokes. cool. real real cool. i seem to be just about the only person in the entertainment centre who didn't touch julian, but that really doesn't matter, because they were just that good. we were real worried that our tickets would be in the second half, but we were in the first half, and ended up getting really good spots so i hada great view for the gig, and oh man. i want to get a budgie, and call it albert hammong jr jr. just...every person in that band is just so cool. from nick with his yellow guitar to nikolai with his hair that is almost as bad as shan's. that was one of the best gigs i've ever been to. seriously. maybe i'm just in awe from the fact that i saw one of my long time favourite bands. room on fire was probly the first good cd i ever bought. it was...wow. cool. so very cool.

and tomorrow can only bring bigger and better things. work, then (drum roll) ARCTIC MONKEYS!!! woo! and the grates supporting!!! so excited. going to be rocking.

and to keep the party going, august has dragged up another treat - We Are Scientists are playing at The Zoo on the 30th. OMFG *DIES*

seriously? best. month. ever.

so how are all of you?

<lj:music>Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Red Right Hand</lj:music>

my friends, i come to you today with a tale of great woe. unfortunately, the following tale has not been exaggerated at all.

My dear friend Hannah used to live in Melbourne, and she moved to brisbane, around the end of her grade 9. not long before she moved, a guy called Jethro who was in her grade and went to school with her, romantically pursued her. he was a bit weird, so she said no.

now, most of you will know of an australian musician called nick cave

poor hannah, being the young girl she was, didn;t know that Nick cave had a son. a son named jethro .

now, almost 2 years on, Jethro is still a little weird Nick Cave: We were in a cab and I was sitting in between both of them and I hadn't seen him in a long time, Jethro, I hadn't been to Australia and we were just sitting there and Luke's on one side and Jethro is on the other side. And Jethro says, he's just quiet for a bit and then he goes: "I don't believe in God". Then I go: "I don't care, fuck with, one way or the other". And then Luke goes: "I do, my whole family does", type of thing like this. And then Luke goes: "well, do you believe in the devil" and Jethro goes: "yeah, and he lives inside of me", he says. And Luke goes: "well, I do believe in God" and Jethro kind of looks at both of us with sort of disdain and goes: "Goddies", like this, you know. So, they're kind of poles apart in that respect (lacht), but quite, quite sweet. but he is also a model. a hot model

As she has loving and caring friends, they have launched an appeal to make sure this never happens again. i am lead to believe t-shirts and badges will be availablein the following design, so please,
